മലയാള സിനിമയിലെ മികച്ച തിരക്കഥാകൃത്തുകളില്‍ ഒരാളാണു് ഷെറീഫ്. ആലപ്പുഴ കൊപ്രാക്കട തറവാട്ടില്‍ ഹമീദ് ബാബയുടെയും രഹ്‌മ ബീവിയുടെയും മകനായി 1940ല്‍ ജനിച്ചു.

ആലപ്പുഴ മുഹമ്മദന്‍ സ്ക്കൂളിലാണു് പഠിച്ചതു്. ചെറുപ്പം മുതല്‍ കഥകള്‍ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു. മുക്കുമാലയാണു് ആദ്യം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ചെറുകഥ. ആലപ്പുഴ ഷെറീഫ് എന്ന പേരില്‍ ധാരാളം ചെറുകഥകളും നോവലുകളും എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ടു്. എ ബി രാജ് സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത കളിപ്പാവ ആണു് ആദ്യം തിരക്കഥ എഴുതിയ ചിത്രം.

ഐ വി ശശിയുടെ ആദ്യചിത്രമായ ഉത്സവം ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ നിരവധി ഹിറ്റ് ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ക്കു് ഷെറീഫ് തിരക്കഥ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ടു്. ശശി ഷെറീഫ് രാമചന്ദ്രന്‍ ടീം അക്കാലത്തു് മലയാള സിനിമയില്‍ അനേകം സൂപ്പര്‍ഹിറ്റുകള്‍ സമ്മാനിച്ചു. ഷെറീഫ് എഴുതിയ അവളുടെ രാവുകള്‍ മലയാളത്തിലെ എക്കാലത്തെയും സൂപ്പര്‍ഹിറ്റ് ചിത്രമാണു്. അസ്തമിക്കാത്ത പകലുകള്‍ എന്ന ചിത്രം സംവിധാനം ചെയ്തു.
